It feels like a lot has been going on, basically because nothing has been going on. I found out in December that I would not be offered a contract to return to the school that I am currently teaching. Due to consolidation, the principle from the other elementary school will be taking my job. Knowing eight months ahead of time is both a blessing and a curse. I am a person who wants to do something to make a situation better. However, there's not a lot I can do right now. Charter and public schools aren't hiring yet, and Christian schools aren't hiring at all. This situation can lead to moments of panic...but God takes care of us even in the panic. Jeff and I take turns panicking - we never freak out about it on the same day. One of us is always calm.
A few days ago, God used Faith to teach me a big lesson. Faith has gotten to the point that she loves Bob and Larry from Veggie Tales, but there's usually something in the video that scares her. The latest scare was the Rumor Weed. I was rocking her before bed, and she was telling me that she was scared of the Rumor Weed. I told her that she didn't need to be scared because Jesus, Mommy, and Daddy were all there to protect her (and, of course, Bob and Larry would help too). I reminded her of the book she got from her grandparents where Anna says "The Lord is my helper, so I will not be afraid." We repeated that a few times (and, yes, she now has it memorized - her first BMW!) In the course of this conversation with my two-year-old, God whacked me over the head. It was one of those times where God spoke right to my heart. It was like I heard him saying, "Hey, Dawn, I'm big enough to protect Faith, don't you think I'll protect you too? I've got this whole business under control. Trust me."
OK, God, I trust you.
