Firsts

Things are starting to kick into gear for my new school year. Along with being at a new school, there will be a lot of "firsts" for me this year. It's the first year that I will have over 20 students in my class (I've got 24). It's the first year to use AR. It's my first year to use a "smart board" to teach computers. It's my first year with so many workbooks (grammar, spelling, Bible...not nearly as much photocopying!). It's my first year being limited to only teaching two novels. It's the first year I get to work with other teachers who are teaching the same material I am (Yeah!). It's my first year not teaching math (that makes me sad). It's my first year teaching 1st grade phonics (I hope I don't mess them up too badly). It's my first year sharing a classroom, but it's also my first year having my own office.

This year will hold a lot of new experiences for me, but I'm looking forward to it with excitement.
We had our open house/parent orientation yesterday, and it looks like we have a really good group of kids and parents. We had staff orientation today, and tomorrow we have a meeting with all four school in the association. Our first day with students is next Monday.

I've included a few pictures of my new classroom.

Those of you from CCS will appreciate the fact that these desks open from the top! I love the fact that I have a TV mounted in the room, but I'm still waiting for the day I hit my head on it.

We have a lot of built-in storage.

And we have more than one bulletin board! (But you can't put staples in brick walls...)

Wow! Your classroom looks great! I am so excited for you and your year! I am so glad you have a blog for me to stay updated on your life! Things at CCS are good....different, but good! We miss you greatly, but are so excited for you and your family. I will be praying for you as you begin this new school year!
