New Year

Well, my first week of school is officially completed. It's really been a blur. I'm wearing so many different hats, so it's hard to keep them all straight. The 4th grade part has been going well. I'm just adjusting to how much slower they are than what I'm used to. I really need to think of them as 3rd graders. I've also been taking for granted things that I think they should have know. For example, I told them to use editing marks to show me which letter should be capitalized. I was met with 24 blank stares. I got the same reaction when I asked if anyone had heard of a pronoun.

The first grade part of my job has actually been a bit boring. I've been testing them on their letters individually. Doing that for an hour and a half straight has kind of made my mind numb.

As for the assistant administrator stuff, thankfully, I haven't had to do any discipline write-ups yet. However, I spent a good chunk of time today trying to figure out how to make a spreadsheet on the school's off-brand of Excel to keep track of who gets write-ups.

So, over all, things have been going very well. The staff there has been extremely helpful and friendly. The only thing I'm not too fond of is how early I have to get up. The school day begins earlier than I'm used to, and I have a commute a bit farther...but that's what travel coffee mugs are for!

As a side note: A HUGE THANK YOU to Faith's grandma's for watching her while I'm at school! It makes it so much easier for me when I know she's being taken care of by people who love her!
